Abstract

Aalenian marine bivalves identified from black clayey siltstones overlying coal measures of Vrška Čuka are the following: Paleonucula hammeri (Defrance), Grammatodon (Grammatodon) subdecusata (Münster in Goldfuss), Cucullaea (Idonearca) oblonga (J. Sowerby), Gervillella aviculoides (J. Sowerby), G. lanceolata (Münster), Entolium (Entolium) comeolum (Young & Bird), Protocardia (Protocardia) subtruncata (d 'Orbigny), Pleuromya uniformis (J. Sowerby), Thracia (Thracia) lens (Agassiz), and Claugthonia turbinoides Bigot; and from sandy limestones over the siltstones: Gervillella aviculoides (J. Sowerby), G. lanceolata (Münster), Pholadomya (Bucardimya) lirata (J. Sowerby), and Pleuromya uniformis (J. Sowerby) which are Bajocian. The above fauna was used in dating Aalenian the rocks overlving the coal measures, which were believed Lower Liassic for more than a hundred years.
